The COVID-19 Info Bot is a Discord bot that provides daily updates and fast and reliable answers to your questions regarding COVID-19! This bot gives you a convenient way to stay updated about COVID-19 as you no longer need to switch apps as much for COVID-19 info while communicating on Discord!
During summer break, I decided that I wanted to do something fun and productive during quarantine, but with code. I also wanted COVID to end so I can go outside and hangout with friends without the fear of getting sick. I attended this webinar for creating discord bots with Python and I recalled that the World Health Organization launched a Facebook Messenger bot to combat COVID-19 misinformation. As a result, I thought it would be cool to create a discord bot that does the same, because if more people are updated and informed about COVID, cases may potentially drop.
In order to deploy this bot efficiently and ensure that it is reliable, I decided to gather some friends to work on this project alongside me. Because this is my first ever Discord Bot, I encountered various challenges while building this bot. One of the challenges that I encountered included implementing a feature that allows the bot to automatically send daily COVID-19 updates to servers it is in without the use of a command.
From this project, I was able to experience how it was like to become a project manager, and I also got to better understand how to lead a project. Furthermore, I learned how to build a Discord Bot, gained some customer service experience when assisting users in our support server, and I discovered various Discord Bot advertising platforms such as top.gg.
